Update: My Experience

Post  auroraMLT on Tue Jan 03, 2012 11:51 am

Shortly after arriving to work this morning, I was met by my supervisor and someone from Human Resources. We sat down and I was asked if I understood that the deadline for receiving the vaccine was Dec 31, to which I said yes. They asked if I intended to receive the vaccine, and I said no. (yet, they said I could receive the vaccine today and keep my job. So what happened to the Dec 31 deadline?!) They then proceeded to tell me that the Immunization Policy I questioned (receiving a written warning and having two weeks to comply before further action is taken) had been followed, even though I have not received a written warning. They informed me that the two denied exemptions, any communication between my supervisor and employee health and myself, and the information/articles found on iConnect regarding reminders about the flu vaccine served as my written warnings, and that I was taken off the schedule because I was not allowed patient contact after the deadline had passed. Then they presented me with a form to sign, stating the reason for my termination was failure to comply with the immunization policy. I asked to clarify that if I signed this form, it was stating that Aurora was firing me. They said no, it was me terminating my employment. I refused to sign, to which they documented my refusal on the form and gave me a copy. Then I was walked back to my work area to collect my belongings, my badge was taken and I had to leave.
